PM Takaichi to nominate US President Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae is finalizing arrangements to convey her intention to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize during the Japan-US summit.

This was disclosed by multiple government officials in interviews with Nippon TV.

Takaichi is reportedly finalizing arrangements to convey her intention to nominate Trump for the prize directly to him during their summit meetings.

The Prime Minister said during a telephone conversation with Trump on October 25 that she had commended his leadership regarding the situation in the Middle East.

Multiple government officials have also cited the joint declaration signed by Thailand and Cambodia on October 26 concerning the border dispute between the two nations, saying that Trumps involvement made a significant contribution to peace in resolving regional conflicts.

In 2019, former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo had also recommended President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in connection with Trump’s approach to North Korea.

Trump has previously expressed an interest in receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

A Foreign Ministry official involved in recommending him for the prize said that Japan is hoping to build a relationship of trust with President Trump.
