M6 quakes rock Taiwan

A magnitude 6 earthquake struck off eastern Taiwan in the early hours of April 23.

Taiwan meteorological officials said another temblor of magnitude 6.3 hit the inland six minutes later.

No injuries have been reported.

But the shaking caused buildings already damaged by a powerful quake on April 3 to tilt.

Local authorities have called on businesses to suspend operations on April 23, while schools have closed for the day.

Since April 3, more than 1,000 quakes have occurred in Taiwan, causing 17 deaths.
