Baggage check-in at Haneda Airport: 30minutes prior departure
Haneda Airport's checking in rules is to change from September.
Six airlines, including Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, will require passengers to check in their baggage no later than 30 minutes before their departure time, starting this September.
Many airlines had accepted checked baggage until 20 minutes before departure but with the new policy, passengers with luggage that exceeds the size limit for carry-on baggage must check in at least 30 minutes before departure, or it will not be loaded onto the aircraft.
The change comes in response to increasing concerns over flight delays. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the on-time departure rate—defined as flights departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time—fell to about 83 percent in the last fiscal year, the lowest level on record.
The Scheduled Airlines Association of Japan, which represents the country's domestic airlines, also plans to clearly inform passengers who arrive after the boarding deadline will not be allowed to board, and is calling for travelers' cooperation.
