US Marine arrested over drunk driving during curfew in Okinawa

In late October, a Marine Corps corporal assigned to the US military’s Camp Hansen in Okinawa Prefecture was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Japanese police, the 21-year-old Marine is suspected of driving a car while intoxicated on a road in the city of Okinawa at around 12:30 a.m. on October 31.

Just after midnight, police received a report of a hit-and-run accident.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the suspect, and an alcohol level exceeding the legal limit was detected from his breath

Following the arrest of another Marine earlier in October in connection with a robbery-murder case, all US military personnel stationed in Okinawa Prefecture had been placed under a curfew from midnight to 5 a.m.
