Unexploded ordnance found at Hiroshima University

What appeared to be an unexploded ordnance was found at the demolition site of a lecture building at Hiroshima University's Kasumi Campus on May 13.

Student / We were using the building that used to be here up until recently. It's scary.

Construction workers found the object that is approximately 90 centimeters long and 25 centimeters in diameter.

The Ground Self-Defense Force's ordnance disposal unit retrieved the shell that is believed to be a 24-centimeter shell from the Imperial Japanese Army.

The fuse was still in place. Traffic regulations were in place for approximately eight and a half hours in the area surrounding the site.

The university cancelled afternoon classes.

The Kasumi Campus of Hiroshima University was the site of a former army facility at the time of the Pacific War.
