According to the Metropolitan Police Department, a former sumo wrestler of Russian nationality known as Amuru Mitsuhiro was arrested on suspects of sexual assault and robbing.

Nikolai Ivanov is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman and robbing her of cash at a karaoke bar in Tokyo’s Shibuya in April 2025.

According to investigators, the  Russian national and another suspect had approached the woman whom they had never met, and searched for his sumo-wrester name on his phone and showed it to her.

Police believe that the suspect was trying to win the victim’s trust by showing that he was a former rikishi.

Officials are further investigating the case.
