PM Takaichi pledges to use any means to resolve North Korea abduction issue

S/ Yokota Takuya (57), Representative of families of North Korean abduction victims / Please urgently rebuild the high-level talks between Japan and North Korea that should have taken place under the Kishida government and take immediate measures to rescue the abductees.

S/ Yokota Sakie (89), Mother of abduction victim Yokota Megumi / I am grateful that (Prime Minister Takaichi) has said she will resolve (the abduction issue) with conviction. I sincerely hope she will make it a reality.

At a rally held in Tokyo on November 3, families of Japanese victims of abduction by North Korea expressed their expectations toward Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and reiterated their demand for the repatriation of all abductees.

The 69-year-old elder sister of abduction victim Arimoto Keiko urged the Japanese government to seek the cooperation of US President Donald Trump and work together as one to resolve the issue.

S/ Takaichi Sanae, Japanese Prime Minister / I do not intend to be selective about methods. I have already conveyed to North Korea that I wish to hold bilateral summit talks.

The Japanese leader said she will not rule out any options and will do everything possible to break ground and resolve the abduction issue during her term.

Yokota Megumi was abducted to North Korea in 1977 at age 13, while Arimoto Keiko was apparently lured to the country in 1983 when she was 23.
