Tokyo celebrates pride month with one of Japans largest pride events

Tokyo celebrated pride month on June 8 with one of Japan’s largest pride events with various booths and a parade at Yoyogi Park.

Tokyo previously celebrated pride in April, making this year the first year to celebrate in June to mirror other pride events around the world.

Around 15,000 people of the LGBTQ+ and ally communities participated in the parade that marched through Shibuya and Harajuku.

The theme of Tokyo Pride 2025 is “Same Life, Same Rights” as the country does not legally recognize same-sex marriage.

One participant said it’s important to gain visibility through the event and hoped for a society without discrimination.

NTV hosted a booth at the event with a six-colored character that represents diversity.
