Japan in 118th place for 2025 Gender Gap Report

The World Economic Forum published its Gender Gap Report for 2025, which quantifies the gender gap in 148 countries, on June 11.
Japan remained in 118th place, the same as the last report in 2024.
The report noted that Japan has made progress in gender equality in areas such as the economy and education but had regressed in the political sphere.
It goes on to mention that the number of female ministers in Japan has decreased from 25% to 10% when compared to the previous year.
In the eastern Asia region, South Korea and China were ranked 101st and 103rd respectively, with Japan in last place.
Iceland is in first place overall, followed by Finland in second, and Norway in third place.
