Former Ohtani interpreter Mizuhara now in prison
Former MLB Dodgers interpreter Mizuhara Ippei, who was convicted of illegally transferring money from Ohtani Shohei's account, is now in prison.
According to authorities, Mizuhara turned himself in to the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Pennsylvania on June 16 and is currently in custody at Allenwood Low.
Mizuhara was sentenced to 57 months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $17 million US Dollars, or about 2.6 billion Japanese yen, in restitution to Ohtani by a California federal district court in February.
The sentence stems from Mizuhara fraudulently transferring nearly $17 million US Dollars, or about 2.6 billion Japanese yen, from Otani's account to pay gambling debts.
Mizuhara was originally scheduled to report to prison by March 24, but the deadline for his appearance was postponed twice at his request.
As Mizuhara is not a U.S. citizen, he is expected to be deported back to Japan after serving his sentence.
