A member of Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force, who was arrested after stabbing a female acquaintance to death in front of a live music club in central Tokyo, has told investigators that they were dating and he had hidden the fact that he had a family.

The 43-year-old SDF member is suspected of stabbing the victim with a knife-like object on November 16.

According to investigators, the suspect said that he met the victim, who was in her 40s, on social media about nine years ago and that they were dating.

He said that he did not tell the victim that he had a family.

Officers conducted a search of his residence at the SDF Camp Asaka and seized items including a computer.

They are investigating the possibility that there was trouble between the suspect and the victim.
