Bathhouse welcomes foreign tourists in Tokyo's 'sento' promo campaign

S/ Fukano Keita, Reporter / The entrance curtain of this bathhouse says "Welcome! Sento."

This sento, or traditional Japanese bathhouse, in Tokyo's Taito Ward welcomes foreign tourists.

The facility that opened 73 years ago has explanations in English, Chinese and Korean on how to use vending machines and how to bathe.

The bathhouse was shown to the media on August 28 as part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's upcoming campaign to promote public baths to visitors from abroad.

As the number of sento in Tokyo has nearly halved from 15 years ago, the metropolitan government hopes to attract more visitors to such facilities.

During the campaign from September 1 to the end of February 2026, leaflets with discount coupons that can be used at 63 bathhouses in Tokyo will be available at hotels.
