Japan executes serial killer who murdered & dismembered 9
Japan executed serial killer Shiraishi Takahiro on June 27, making it the first execution since July 2022.
Shiraishi was convicted for convicted for robbery, rape, murder, and corpse mutilation of nine people aged 15 to 26 in 2017.
He met the victims mainly through social media, lured them to his apartment, where he killed and dismembered them.
A Tokyo district court ruled in 2020 that all nine victims had not given their consent to be murdered and sentenced Shiraishi to death.
Japanese Justice Minister Suzuki Keisuke spoke to reporters following the execution.
Japanese Justice Minister Suzuki Keisuke / The loss of nine young and precious human lives in about two months has had extremely grave consequences, and gave great shock and anxiety to society. We ordered the execution after thorough and deliberate consideration.
Shiraishi’s execution was the first since July 2022.
The number of confirmed death row inmates in the country now stands at 105.
