10-kg drone crashes near residence and bursts into flames in Yamanashi

On the morning of January 27, a drone flying over the city of Tsuru in Yamanashi Prefecture crashed.
The drone burst into flames in a residential parking lot.
The fire was extinguished after about 50 minutes.
We spoke with an affected resident.
S/ Resident / When I came outside, flames were coming from the drone, so I rushed to move the car out of the way. The flames were rising about 50 cm high.
Officials said the drone measured about 1.7 meters by 1.5 meters and weighed around 10 kilograms.
It was flying as part of a project to test the delivery of emergency supplies during disasters and was being remotely operated from about 35 kilometers away.
According to the police and the drone’s operating company, the device appears to have come into contact with power lines and then fallen to the ground.
