Rescue cats serve as Police Chiefs for a day to bring awareness to 'Police Box Day'
On November 27, three cats from a local shelter in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture served as honorary chiefs for a day at Sagamihara Minami Police Station.
To coincide with “Police Box Day”, posters featuring photographs of the cats were displayed at each police box to make them more approachable for local residents.
Additionally, a campaign distributing crime prevention items was held at Odakyu's Sagami-Ono Station.
Sagamihara Minami Police Station Chief Ito Hayato said that while police may have a stern and intimidating image, they also have a gentle side.
He also said that he wants residents to feel comfortable coming in for a chat at their local police boxes, and that he wants people to see the police as approachable neighbors.
