Multiple sources said Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko intends to run for a third term. 

The Tokyo gubernational election will be held on July 7 in accordance with the expiration of Koike’s current term on July 30. 

Koike is expected to make an official announcement at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly on May 29. 

As of now, a mayor from Hiroshima Prefecture and over 20 others have announced their candidacy with more expected later this week.
