2 Maebashi City Hall officials arrested over alleged stalking, upskirt voyeurism
Two male employees of Maebashi City Hall in Gunma Prefecture were arrested in separate criminal cases on consecutive days.
On June 29, police arrested one of the employees for allegedly using a smartphone to secretly film up a woman's skirt at a bookstore in the city of Isesaki in the same prefecture earlier in the month.
The police were examining the 42-year-old man's smartphone after he was reported in connection with a separate suspected voyeurism incident at a shopping mall in Isesaki on June 28.
They said they found evidence of the June 13 bookstore incident on his phone and arrested him.
The suspect has admitted to the allegations.
On June 28, police arrested another Maebashi City Hall employee on suspicion of violating the anti-stalking law.
According to police, the 41-year-old suspect allegedly sent 26 social media messages to a female acquaintance in her 30s between March and June this year.
In the messages, he told the woman things like, "I want to see you today too," "Let's go home together," and "Let's have lunch if you're free."
The case came to light on June 27 when the woman consulted the police about receiving unwanted messages from an acquaintance.
The police arrested the suspect based on the content of his messages.
This suspect has also admitted to the accusations.
The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the two cases.
