Fire breaks out at Tokyo elementary school, everyone rescued
A fire broke out at an elementary school in Tokyo's Kita Ward on the morning of June 19.
Tokyo police said the fire began at about 11 a.m. at Takinogawa Daisan elementary school, likely in a music room on the fourth floor.
Officials said the fire has burned about 130 square meters of the school building and other areas and is continuing to spread.
The Tokyo Fire Department has deployed 71 vehicles, including fire engines, to battle the blaze, which officials said is beginning to come under control.
There were initial reports that multiple people remained trapped, but officials said everyone has been rescued from the rooftop.
Eight students were injured from smoke inhalation and other causes, and a female staff member was also injured, but officials said all of them are conscious.
