Man steals luxury watch from Nakano Broadway store in Tokyo
On the night of October 29, a man tried on a luxury watch at a store on the third floor of the Nakano Broadway shopping complex in Tokyo and then fled with it.
Investigators said the watch store contacted police shortly before 8 p.m., saying an Audemars Piguet wristwatch worth about 46 million yen, or roughly 290,000 dollars, was stolen.
At the time of the incident, there was one employee in the store and another in the back room.
The suspect, posing as a customer, entered the store at 7:45 p.m., which was 15 minutes before closing.
He tried on the watch and walked out, about 8 minutes after arriving, while still wearing the timepiece on his left wrist.
A store employee chased after him, but he ran against upward escalators to go down two levels to the first floor, went through the basement floor, emerged at ground level and fled eastward.
Security cameras on the first basement floor captured images of the suspect fleeing.
He was wearing a jacket, pants and a hat, which were all dark colored.
Tokyo police are reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence to track the suspect’s whereabouts.
