Bereaved mark 29 years since JAL 123 disaster

Families of the victims of the deadliest single-aircraft accident in history visited the crash site today.

On August 12th 1985, Japan Airlines flight 123 hit a mountain in central Japan, killing 520 passengers and crew.

Only four survived the night until a rescue team arrived the next morning.

29 years later, the victims’ aging families climbed the ridge where their loved ones lost their lives.

They rang a bell near the site and prayed for aviation safety.

One of the bereaved expressed concerns for safety including the recent disappearance of Malaysia Airlines MH17.

Investigators attributed the crash of flight 123 to faulty repair work from a previous accident.
